A Delicious Gourmet Popcorn Fundraiser Benefits Young Non Profit Ministry
“We are a young ministry, on a very tight shoestring,” said Pastor Steve Hofmeister, the Founder, Senior Pastor, and President of DIMOM (DEE-mom) [acronym for Diakonos Independent Ministries of Maryland].
Pastor Steve, as most know him by continued, “Unlike a typical church, we do not have tithing members, at least not at this stage of our growth. We rely on private donations and the fees we charge for wedding officiating and pastoral counseling. I myself, being the sole ordained member of this ministry at this time, do not receive any financial compensation from these services, other than the occasional and unrequired tip. All of our staff are volunteers, so no one here receives any financial gain or wage from this ministry.”
Pastor Steve adds, “Sure, it would be great to have our ministry strong enough to financially support itself and the programs we envision and are building. It would also be great to be strong enough to pay those doing the hard work. I refuse to take any wage until our Board of Trustees decides it on their own merit, and the ministry can sustain itself financially. I am in no rush for this to happen. I have personally contributed hundreds of dollars to this ministry just to lay the groundwork. I do this for my Lord and Savior, nothing more.”
DIMOM currently runs a Give-A-Bible program where they stock new low-cost Bibles to give those they reach out to that don’t have one. “Each one of these Bibles costs us about $5.00 each, which is really cheap when you compare the costs but, $5.00 adds up fast,” mentioned Pastor Steve.
The COVID19 Pandemic sidetracked many of DIMOM’s plans. “The pandemic has drastically limited our outreach ability,” says Pastor Steve. “Once again, we don’t operate like a typical church. We don’t have a building to meet or the infrastructure and volunteer workforce to set up, coordinate, and operate worship, outreach, or a learning event outdoors with the necessary precautions to protect the people from harm. This would be one of the uses for the funds we can raise with fundraisers such as this. We want to be in public. One of the slogans we use is “Bringing the Community to Christ, by bringing Christ to the Community.” We want to be where the people are, not sit back and wait on them to come to us to find and learn about Jesus Christ.” Stated Pastor Steve.
Pastor Steve mentioned volunteers. DIMOM is in dire need of like-minded, God Loving volunteers who would like to take an active part in build a ministry such as this. DIMOM would like to build floating worship and outreach teams throughout the area they have laid out. DIMOM wants to be able to reach out in public as well as through the internet. “We have a great call coming in from people who want us to start online sermons and teaching. Without volunteers willing to help do the everyday tasks and the funding to support the production resources to make a regular internet presence, we have been struggling to get this going. Says, Pastor Steve.
Pastor Steve interjects jokingly, “I am but one man, with two hands, excuse me one hand. (Pastor Steve is recovering from a hand injury at the time of this writing) Those interested in volunteering should reach out to DIMOM at 443-203-8238, by email at email@example.com, or by visiting https://dimom.org/job-openings/.
